Success Story

Most people trying to have a baby or waiting to be matched for adoption know that if feels like forever. We were in the same position. We took our classes, we submitted our names for children we were interested in, but we weren’t matched. It seemed like it was never going to happen. But, it did and it happened all at once! On September 30, 2005 I picked up our beautiful, six and a half week old baby boy, Shane. He was a foster placement from another county agency. We fell in love with him as did everyone who saw him. He was and still is captivating. However, he was a foster placement and reunification was the plan and we were helping with that. So, when we were told late in October that we had been matched with a sibling group of two that we had inquired on thru Adopt-Us-Kids we didn’t hesitate to continue with that since we were not sure how long we would be blessed with our beautiful Shane. We met Keyon and Brionna over Veteran’s day weekend in 2005. They lived in a foster home in St. Louis, Missouri. At the time, Brionna was six and Keyon was eight. We made the tough, but right decision not to move the children to Ohio until they completed their school year and until our new house was finished being built. Keyon and Brionna moved with us to Ohio in May of 2006. Of course, we made many visits to Missouri and the children came to Ohio over Christmas 2005. After they moved, our house was full of energy, noise, and clutter. This is how every home with a one year old, a seven year old and a nine year old should be!

After much emotional turmoil and court hearings and attorneys (we had four over the course of this), we were awarded legal custody of Shane on March 29th, 2007. Keyon and Brionna became official Camden’s on April 30th, 2007 and Shane followed on December 18th, 2007. Nothing was easy, smooth, or clearly spelled out, but we stayed strong through the entire process and truly believed that everything happens for a reason. We are very glad that our adoptions are all final, but the long road has not come to an end. Two of our three children have special needs and we work with that daily, but things are getting easier and we become more of a family with every challenge we face together. The children have experienced wonderful successes, as well. Keyon is an amazing athlete. He scored every point, except for six, that his football team made this year! Brionna is experimenting to find what her true interests are and she enjoys many things. Shane is blossoming with his words and talks up a storm!

We are a truly blessed family and we are overjoyed to all have the same, Camden, last name!
