Guide to Post-Emancipation Services
If you are in need of assistance, have emancipated from foster care and are between the ages of 18-21 we can help. After emancipation you may still be in need of assistance. You may be in need of resources for housing, career, or maybe even financial issues.
The Independent Living specialist will talk with you to determine what assistance you need based on an assessment. Before the agency opens a post-emancipation case with you, the agency will explore and coordinate services with other community resources.
If you are still in need of assistance, the agency will open a post-emancipation case with you. A post-emancipation case is voluntary. This means if you decide not to accept the assistance or choose not to complete services, your case will be closed. Once it has been determined that a case will be opened, the Independent Living specialist will work with you to develop a written plan. This plan will clearly outline what activities will be completed by you and your Independent Living specialist. You will need to sign the plan and a copy will be given to you.
Emancipated Youth Services include:
- Daily living skills
- Assistance in obtaining a high school diploma or GED
- Assistance in preparation for post secondary education and training
- Assistance with career exploration, vocational training, job placement and retention
- Preventative health activities (smoking avoidance, nutritional education and pregnancy prevention)
- Financial, housing, employment, education and self esteem counseling
- Development of positive relationships and support systems
- Drug and alcohol abuse prevention and treatment
